Randy Wayne White Book Signing at Doc Ford’s

Thursday, July 16th, 2009

randy_wayne_white_dead_silenceDoc Ford fans are excited that New York Times Best Selling author Randy Wayne White will be here in Fort Myers Beach signing copies of his latest novel in the Doc Ford series, Dead Silence, on Sunday, July 26, 2009. The best selling author and Southwest Florida favorite is scheduled for two appearances: 12 p.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

The signing event will take place at Doc Ford’s Rum Bar & Grille in Fort Myers Beach. Dead Silence is the 16th in the series of Doc Ford novels and quite possibly the most chilling one yet. Here’s your chance to meet the author and get the latest scoop.

Marion “Doc” Ford is the hero and main character in several best-selling novels written by Randy Wayne White. Doc Ford is a marine biologist and ex-government agent who yearns for the quiet, contemplative life of a scientist. He’s also “a baseball-loving, tropical adventurer who – not so surprisingly – has spent a lot of time in the same far-flung places that I wrote about when I was a monthly columnist for Outside Magazine: Places such a Cuba, Cambodia, South Africa, Australia, Vietnam, Borneo, and all over South and Central America,” says White. Before writing his novels, White used to be a light tackle fishing guide right here in Southwest Florida at the Tarpon Bay Marina on Sanibel Island. He worked more than 3,000 charters and spent 300 days a year boating in the Southwest Florida waters. And just as his novels are inspired by these local barrier islands, his days on the water, and the people he came to know, the spirit of Doc Ford’s fine sports bars was inspired by the marine biologist who is the main character of those novels.

For more information, please call 239-765-9660 or visit docfords.com. Doc Ford’s Fort Myers Beach Rum Bar & Grille is located at 708 Fisherman’s Wharf Drive (last right before the Fort Myers Beach bridge).

Fort Myers Beach, Florida- The intimate island town of Fort Myers Beach captivates vacationers and locals alike with its unpretentious charm and warm hospitality. From the moment you descend from the scenic span of the Matanzas Bridge – which connects the island to the mainland of Fort Myers – you know you’re in for something special. The town’s casual and laid-back atmosphere and reputation as “the safest beach in the world” have led to its increasing popularity as a great family vacation spot. Wide, white-sand beaches bring visitors to Fort Myers Beach year after year. Over 30 beach access points are located along Estero Boulevard, some with parking and some for pedestrian traffic only. Peaceful surroundings make these great places to go and just enjoy the beach and its natural surroundings. The centerpiece of the island, Fort Myers Beach Pier, abounds with fishermen and local waterfowl. The pelicans especially enjoy the pier, and every post seems to have its prerequisite occupant perched on top. Bowditch Point, a lovely 17-acre park that fronts both the Gulf of Mexico and Estero Bay, welcomes visitors with an unspoiled wide sandy beach and beautiful views of nearby barrier islands. Sun lovers can catch a trolley to the beach, which runs up and down the island every 15 minutes.

Beyond the shoreline, Fort Myers Beach offers a myriad of activities for young and young-at-hearts alike. Numerous vendors along Estero Boulevard offer jet-ski rentals, bike rentals and parasailing, as well as other sport activities. The kids will enjoy a splash in the Community Pool, which features a two-story water slide, lap pool and a tad pool area with waterfalls, squirt guns and tire swings.
