My Dog’s New Year’s Resolutions
I will not play tug-of-war with Dad’s underwear or socks when he’s on the toilet; remember that the garbage collector is NOT stealing our stuff; will not get nose prints on every window and sliding glass door of the house – I will view from a distance; will not lick the drippings from the garbage collection truck from the street on collection day; will shake the rainwater out of my fur BEFORE entering the house; will not beg for food; will stop trying to find the few remaining pieces of clean carpet in the house when I am about to throw up; will not get nose marks all over the car windows; will not sniff inappropriate or dead objects during walks; will not lick faces after sniffing inappropriate or dead objects; will stop drinking too much water and leaving piles of water vomit all over the tile floors; will stop barking at other dogs or doorbells each time I hear one on TV; When on my walks, I will not lift my leg and eliminate on other people’s belongings, like produce from the farmers market; will stop freaking out my mom and dad by eating the white stuffing from my toys; The carpet is not a towel for my bottom, I will no longer use it as one; will stop jumping up on strangers for attention; when in the car, I will not insist on having the window rolled down when it’s raining outside; will not insist on playing ball while Dad is on the toilet; will not push my mom and dad out of “my” bed anymore – I’ll sleep in a convenient spot at the bottom of the bed; I will not pull on the leash any more during our walks, instead I’ll follow along side, obediently.
