I’ve been living in Southwest Florida for almost 20 years now (does that make me a native yet?) and have vacationed at the beach most of my life. One of the most frequent questions that people ask while they’re packing and heading off for their Florida vacation is: What on earth should I pack? Here are some practical – and some not-so-common – tips from this beach bum: (more…)

“My two sisters and I got there on my 50th birthday. Everyone was so nice to us and the waiter took this picture of us out by the pool while we were waiting for our lunch and drinks. We will all three remember the trip forever.”

Geocaching on Fort Myers Beach

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

geocaches-on-fort-meyers-beachSo you’ve spent the morning on the beach, had a great lunch at DiamondHead’s Cabañas.  Now what?  How about Geocaching?

Geocaching is a high-tech version of hide-and-seek. Geocachers seek out hidden treasures utilizing GPS coordinates posted on the Internet by those hiding the cache.

Here are a list of Geocaches right here on Fort Myers Beach!

We have placed our own cache.  The first person to find it gets a Beach Survival Kit!

Get into the adventure of Doc Ford!

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

For most all of the locals in the Fort Myers area, this name should ring a bell! Doc Ford’s creator, Randy Wayne White, became famous for his New York Times Best Selling Novels based on adventures in the Lee County area during his days as a light tackle fishing guide. His most recent claim to fame are his two local resteraunts, both named Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille. Doc Ford’s Rum Bar and Grille originated on Sanibel Island, but be sure to check out his newest location on Fort Myers Beach, where you can eat, drink, and shop! All of Randy’s books are available for sale at his resteraunt if you are looking for a new collection of books to read while visiting or to take back as a reminder of your vacation!
