Naples, Florida doesn’t have any towering skyscrapers or ocean spanning bridges, but it does have something very special. The Naples Pier.

Today, the Naples City Pier no longer serves as a dock for boat traffic but is instead the most popular place in Naples for fishing. From sunrise to sunset, avid anglers line the pier with their rods and buckets of bait, hoping to score a good catch for the day. Unlike elsewhere in Naples, fishing from the pier does not require a state fishing license as the city of Naples purchased a bulk license that covers anyone who casts a line off the pier.

Let’s set the mood…The Fort Myers Beach sun is shinning and you are relaxing poolside at DiamondHead Beach Resort. You can hear the waves of the Gulf of Mexico rolling ashore only feet away and you think to yourself that life doesn’t get much better….Oh but wait, it does! Add a refreshing frozen beverage to the mix and you might have just achieved total relaxation. Ahhhhh…

This week’s Friday Happy Hour Recipe is called the Shark Attack. Cabana’s Beach Bar & Grille located at DiamondHead Beach Resort on Fort Myers Beach

Shark Attack Drink Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1oz white rum
  • 25oz Banana Liqueur
  • 3oz Banana Tropic Mix
  • Drizzle of Raspberry Liqueur

Mixing Instructions: Add white rum, Banana Liqueur  and Banana Tropic Mix to a blender with ice. Blend until smooth. Pour into glass and drizzle Raspberry Liqueur over the top. Garnish with whipped cream and cherry.

Now you can easily make this frozen vacation in a glass at home. Take a sip and you’ll instantly be transported to Cabanas Beach Bar and the sand of the Gulf of Mexico.

2013 Taste Of The Beach. The Fort Myers Beach Food Event Of The Year

Fort Myers Taste of the BeachJoin us on Fort Myers Beach for the 2013 Taste Of The Beach. This popular annual event is happening April 28th on Old San Carlos Boulevard (By the Yucatan Restaurant). Over 20 local Fort Myers Beach restaurants will be participating this year along with great live music.

Restaurants will offer samples of their signature dishes available for purchase and will compete for top Taste of the Beach Award honors in the categories of Best Appetizer, Best Dessert, and four awards for Best Entrée.

Gates open at 11:00 a.m.  Food will be served until 6:00 p.m. Tickets will be available on site. Admission is $5 for adults and children over 12. Children under 12 are free. Food tickets will be $1.00 each, with a $5 average food serving price.

Many of the local restaurants on Fort Myers Beach will be participating in this event. Some that have already signed up are Matanzas Inn Resort, Beach Pierside Grill, Bayfront Bistro, Parrot Key, Big Game Waterfront Grill, Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina, Nauti Turtle, Pinchers Crab Shack, Yucatan Beach Stand, Doc Ford’s, Nervous Nellies, Royal Scoop, and Chucks Last Stop American Grill.

Live on-stage concerts by country rock recording artists Craig Campbell,  Brett Eldredge and the Grayson Rogers Band will keep you entertained as you taste some of the area’s best food. Come on down to the Taste of the Beach, enjoy some amazing food, great entertainment and the relaxing beach atmosphere.

Fort Myers Beach Film FestivalThe Fort Myers Beach Film Festival is back for its seventh year, attracting independent film fans, filmmakers, and distributors to spend four fabulous days and nights on the Gulf beaches. The events begin on April 24th and ends on April 28th, 2013 with events to choose from for all ages.

The film festival is a place for movie enthusiasts to gather, talk about movies, meet filmmakers and of course watch movies. The Fort Myers Film Festival is also a place for people in the movie making business to exchange ideas, make new contacts, and enjoy compelling and interesting films encompassing a wide range of tastes.

The Film Festival presents abundant and entertaining reasons for families and friends to visit Fort Myers Beach in late spring for some of the best films and weather anywhere in the country. Who doesn’t want to watch a movie on the beach!

“Shorts” will be presented as a series. Screenings will take place continuously over the four-day festival at Beach Theater on Fort Myers Beach. Past festival events have included a film making workshop for adults and another for children to create family films; a film industry luncheon and a sunset cruise on the Gulf of Mexico, complimentary for filmmakers and celebrity guests. Awards will be given for films in each category, as well as People’s Choice Award, Best Student Film, and Best Actor. Each film is screened during the four-day festival with another screening for award-winning films on the final day of the film festival following the gala awards presentation.

3rd Annual Fort Myers Beach Sand Bash, April 5-14, 2013

Fort Myers Beach Sand Bash

Fort Myers Beach hosts the 3rd annual Sand Bash sand-sculpting event April 5th -14th. Women Master Sand Sculptors from as far away as Australia begin arriving in Southwest Florida to compete in this charity event. This year Sand Bash is hosting America’s first All-Women’s Master Sand Sculpting Championship. The event will benefit the Susan G. Komen of Southwest Florida and other local charities.

There is something for everyone as the activities continue for more than a week and include a Master sand sculpting exhibition, a wine tasting festival on the beach, speed sand sculpting, a film festival, live chain saw art, sand sculpture demonstrations and lessons, “Flying Colors with John Gowdy” and amateur sand sculpting contests. The kids activity area offers some carnival atmosphere and rides for children. Plenty of vendors are set up to provide a variety of food, beverages, art, crafts, jewelry and all kinds of retail items.
